Tec Labs Ranks #1 in The Scientist Magazine’s "Best Places to Work in Industry" Annual Worldwide Survey

Albany, Ore.—Tec Laboratories, Inc. (Tec Labs) has been recognized by The Scientist magazine as the top company to work for in the magazine’s annual survey. Tec Labs ranked first out of 10 in the Small Company (fewer than 5,000 employees) category. The company’s genuine atmosphere of teamwork, a truly family-friendly work environment, an extremely favorable Oregon location, a well equipped and maintained lab, and the highest corporate ethical standards pushed Tec Labs into the top spot, according to feedback from the magazine.

“This is a tremendous honor for us," said Steve Smith, president of Tec Labs. “To be recognized by a publication with the prestige of The Scientist is a huge compliment. We know that ultimately our success begins and ends with our world class employees. We focus on creating an environment that celebrates them and fosters teamwork." Smith also said that as the company grows at a rapid pace, retaining and acquiring top tier employees remains the highest of his company’s priorities. “Like my dad says; if you see a turtle sitting on a fence post you know he had help getting there."

Larry Burris, national sales manager and 14 year employee, is thankful he found a home at Tec Labs. “This really is a wonderful place to work. It’s the greatest feeling to love going to work each day," said Burris. “Our new facility is amazing, and the people here are among the smartest and hardest working people you’ll ever hope to find."

About the Survey

The Scientist asked industry-based readers in the Life Sciences field to assess their experiences and work environments against 45 criteria. The Life Sciences are generally recognized as the sciences that have to do with “organisms" like plants, animals and humans. The magazine used an in-depth web based survey and conducted follow-up phone interviews. Companies were separated into two categories; small (fewer than 5,000 employees) and large (more than 5,000 employees). The survey covered companies from 21 countries, including the U.S, Canada and Western Europe. The results appeared in the June 6, 2005, issue.
